空氣清淨機、除濕機、延長線⋯常見家電用品英文該怎麼說？

生活周遭常用許多家電用品，卻不知道他們的英文名稱嗎？帶你從客廳到廚房到房間，一步步學習家電用品的英文！

餐廳

TV／television (n.) 電視

將television拆解成兩個部分：tele- + vision，tele-表示「距離遙遠；在遠處；遙遠的（far off）」的意思，所以television也就是能傳遞遠方的影像的電視囉！

I always watch TV in my spare time.（我空閒時總是看電視。）

fan (n.) 電風扇

fan是一個被廣泛使用的單字，名詞除了「電風扇」這個解釋以外，它也有「粉絲、狂熱者」的意思。fan也可以作為及物或不及物動詞使用喔！及物動詞是「煽動、刺激、扇、吹拂」；不及物動詞則解釋為「飄動、成扇形散開」。

On this hot day, we definitely need a fan to cool the room down.（在這炎熱的日子，我們非常需要電風扇來降低房間的溫度。）

She was expelled from school for fanning her classmates to rebel against their teachers.（她因煽動同學反對老師而被學校開除。）

Brightly-colored flags were fanning in the breeze.（鮮豔的彩旗在微風中飄揚。）

audio set／stereo set (n.) 音響

audio表示「聽力的、聲音的」，當作名詞是指聲音，特別是指再製的或是被錄下的聲音，所以很容易聯想為音響吧！

My dad bought a new audio set last week , and it gave us a brand new experience of watching the movies.（爸爸上週買了一套新的音響，它帶給了我們全新的看電影感受。）

extension cord／extension cable (n.) 延長線

cord、cable表示「電線」，extension是指「延長」，延長的電線就是延長線囉！

There are a lot of extension cords out there, and sometimes it’s hard to know which one to use.（那邊有許多條延長線，有時候很難判斷該用哪一條。）

battery charger (n.) 充電器

charge當動詞有「充電」的意思，加上er變成「使充電的物品」，也就是充電器。通常我們會省略battery ，直接講charger，泛指充電器。

portable charger字面上稱作可攜式的充電器，也就是我們常用到的「行動電源」，power bank也是指行動電源，可以一併記起來唷！

Can you lend me a battery charger? My phone is almost dead.（你可以借我充電器嗎？我的手機快沒電了。）

廚房

refrigerator (n.) 冰箱

refrigerator是一種很正式的說法，native speaker不大會使用這個單字，他們會直接稱冰箱為fridge（注意！fridge拼法多了一個d喔）。

Perishable food should be stored in a refrigerator.（易腐敗食物應儲存在冰箱裡。）

oven (n.) 烤箱

I baked the apple pie in oven for 45 minutes and I can’t wait to have a bite of it.（我把蘋果派放進烤箱烤45分鐘，我已經等不及想品嚐一口了。）

microwave (n.) 微波爐

micro- 指「微、小」，wave 是「波」的意思。微小的波就稱作微波啦！微波爐是microwave oven，不過通常我們會省略oven。

Microwave is a useful tool to heat food up.（微波爐是加熱食物的好工具。）

toaster (n.) 烤麵包機

toast是「吐司」的意思，加上er變成「烤吐司的器具」。而烘焙師的英文是baker。

We need a larger toaster so that we can bake more toasts at the same time.（我們需要一台大一點的烤箱，這樣就可以一次烤許多片土司。）

drinking fountain／water dispenser (n.) 飲水機

drinking fountain是噴泉式飲水器，經常出現在運動場周圍，提供運動員隨時補充水分。

There are several drinking fountains around the basketball court.（籃球場周圍有許多噴泉式飲水機。）

electric pot、electric rice cooker、automatic rice cooker (n.) 電鍋

The invention of the electric pot has substantially shorten the time of making dinner.（電鍋的發明大幅地降低晚餐的準備時間。）

dish dryer (n.) 烘碗機

Our dish dryer is out of order, we have to buy a new one sooner or later.（我們家的烘碗機故障了，遲早需要買新的一台。）

房間

air purifier (n.) 空氣清淨機

purify表示「使純淨、淨化」，purifier就是使某物變乾淨的淨化器。淨水器稱為water purifier。

Air purifier is an indispensable device for people who suffered from allergy.（空氣清淨機對過敏的人來說，是一項不可或缺的裝置。）

dehumidifier (n.) 除濕機

humid是潮濕的意思。de-這個字首最原始的意思為「下（down）、壞的」，後來演變為「否定（not）、沒有（none）、去除（remove）」。因此， dehumidifier就是去除溼氣的除濕機。

Turn on the dehumidifier, please. The room was damp and smelly.（請打開除濕機讓它運轉，房間很潮濕且有種不好聞的異味。）

vacuum cleaner (n.) 真空吸塵器

I bought a new vacuum cleaner at Carrefour last night.（我昨晚在家樂福買了一台吸塵器。）

hair dryer (n.) 吹風機

雖然中文稱為「吹出風的機器」，然而從英文的角度來解釋是「吹乾頭髮的機器」哦！順帶提醒大家，洗完澡頭髮要盡快吹乾，才不會感冒唷！

She insisted on buying another hair dryer, which she has no use for.（她堅持再買一支吹風機，但她根本用不著。）
